OSRAM launches Duris S5 purple LED for garden lighting

Recently, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors introduced the new Duris S5 purple LED. According to the company, the LED combines the key wavelengths of red and blue into a purple LED, making gardening applications more cost effective than ever.

Designers of professional horticultural lighting systems often prefer multi-channel solutions that combine LEDs to accommodate and optimize light output at different stages of the plant life cycle, including seedling, germination, vegetative growth and flowering. For consumer lighting systems, cost and ease of implementation are key factors that system developers are concerned with when selecting their components.

By combining the two most important wavelengths of plant growth (450 and 660 nm) in a single package, the Duris S5 purple LED provides a particularly economical solution for cost-sensitive applications. The LEDs are available in 0.3 and 1.0 watts for horticultural lighting systems in indoor consumer applications.

The solution uses innovative fluorescence spectroscopy for high photosynthetic flux (PPF), specialty grade materials such as high quality epoxy leadframes, Osram sapphire chips and sturdy silicones, and undergoes extensive stress testing. Duris S5 purple can also be blended with Duris S5 lime to produce high quality white light for harvesting and visual inspection.

In addition, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors offers a full spectrum of white Duris with various voltage options, with a higher ratio of super red and far red than standard white LEDs.
